Hence, the city limits are home to a population of just 3,700 people, but its status as a shopping and dining destination for the surrounding area give it the feel of a bustling tourist spot.

Fun for All

Wayzata has more to offer than just shopping and fine dining. First of all, it's downtown lake front is beloved for the long, epic views it provides of Wayzata Bay and Lake Minnetonka's North Lower Lake. Another selling point is the multiple regional public amenities found within it's city limits. For instance, the Dakota Rail Trail begins here, providing a 13.5 mile paved trail that snakes through Lake Minnetonka on it's way out west and touches the cities of Orono, Minnetonka Beach, Spring Park, Mound, and Minnetrista. Another beloved feature is the public docks which allow boaters to moor and explore downtown, a unique and well used amenity enjoyed by residents around the lake. In addition, numerous parks and green spaces exist providing a wide variety of activities and gathering places for young and old. These include tennis courts, Pickleball(!), old growth forest preserves, play ground structures, beautiful gardens, outdoor ice rinks, volleyball, beaches and more, all offered on a seasonal basis. Even more fun is offered in the winter months which bring opportunities for cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and outdoor ice skating. As a result, there are a  plethora of activities for young and old which are facilitated through a partnership between the city and Minnetonka Community Education, among others.

School Choices

Children that live in Wayzata have their public education needs met by the Wayzata School District. Beginning learners by and large start at Gleason Lake Elementary, though some families to the east of Gleason Lake will be assigned to Birchview Elementary. Next up is  Wayzata Central Middle School.
